Current struggles with Art......

How does art affect what I do every day and how does it affect that way I view my surroundings, my environment and my relationship with my family.  Art has a profound effect on the way I act, the way I feel  and the way interact.

I enjoy all types of Art, main stream, iconic, underground, and local……  There is the monthly event  here in the east bay, in Oakland, called the Art Murmur or as some will call it First Firday.   You can look up Oakland Art Murmur on the web.  There are many  art galleries all located in this sort or Hub in downtown Oakland and once a month they keep their doors open late and purvey their latest opening.   There is food , music, dancing in the streets, bands in the streets ( many bands) some playing on top of busses, inside of busses, on street corners and local artist selling their wares.  The city closes about 4 blocks of Telegraph Ave. in Oakland and there is performance art, demonstrations, food trucks, so the foodies are out in droves and last month there was a slam dunk demonstration.  And also the local dive burger drive in has a car show ripe with Boss cars and rusty Rat rods, girls dressed in their best betty 50’s outfit and of course the suicide lincoln’s with 18 in. spinners.  We get all the flava…….  Not to veer off to much from the question but I consider all of this art, be it local or known…. I frequently buy silk screened posters from the artist on the street because I like the art and it’s actually really good.

Some of my favorite known artist are:

 Keith harring
Andy Warhol
Peter Max
(do you see a trend)

I am more inclined to purchase a piece of Pop art with it’s iconic styling, definite lines of demarcation, bold colors, and messages about our society.  Art that has started from the street always inspires me and if they make it big then even better so they can get their message out there.

Then we have the street artist that are still alive and they went big, by no fault of their own, just trying to put the word out like Bansky in the UK, so f’n dope…..
Is it the mind of a genius or is it just a passionate prolific artist that is unrelenting in their struggle to be heard…

Then we have Daid Choe, a street artist who is now a  Millionaire because he painted the walls of facebook.  I don’t consider him famous for the facebook thing but because his Graffiti art is dope…..

As you can see I have a lot of favorites and influences……. I gotta say that keith harring has always been my favorite 21st century artist and it is too bad he had to go at such and early time in his life.  It’s mind boggling to try image as to what he would be creating if he were still alive with art, and mass media on a global scale.   I know there are still artist out there today doing just this but this does not discount the impact keith would have had today…….

Can you say Super Light Skimboard - Balsa? Be Amazed!

That is right.  I am embarking on a Balsa Wood Skimboard.  Here are some pictures to show the messy beginnings of a board that will be Super-Dope when it is complete.  The board will be well-endowed with both front and rear Rockers, Great graphics and a super slick epoxy surface.  Not sure if this will be a wall hanger or if I will actually ride it.  Stay Tuned..........
